3歳で水泳を始め、5歳の時には自由形・背泳ぎ・バタフライ・平泳ぎの4泳法すべてで50ｍを泳げるようになる。

中学1年生で出場したジュニアオリンピックカップ春季大会（13〜14歳区分）では、50m・100m自由形で短水路中学記録を更新して優勝。その年の日本選手権では出場した5種目全てで中学生としてただ一人決勝に進んだ。

高校1年生で出場したリオオリンピックでは日本人選手最多の7種目への出場を果たし、100ｍバタフライでは5位入賞をするなど活躍。

2017年日本選手権では女子史上初となる5冠、翌年のアジア大会では史上初となる6冠を達成し大会最優秀選手（MVP）に選出された。

2019年2月 体調不良により遠征先から帰国、白血病と診断され入院による治療を余儀なくされたが12月に退院。2020年8月の東京都特別水泳大会で実戦復帰。

2021年の日本選手権水泳競技大会では50m・100mのバタフライと自由形計4種目で優勝、リレー種目での東京オリンピック代表権を獲得。
東京オリンピックでは3種目に出場し、女子4×100mメドレーリレーでは決勝に進出。

個人種目11個とリレー種目5個、計16種目の日本記録を保持しており、3大会連続のオリンピック出場にむけて日々トレーニングに励んでいる。


Rikako Ikee began swimming at the age of three, and by the age of five, she could already swim 50 meters in all four swimming styles: freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke.

At the JOC Spring Swim Meet 2014 (13-14 year age group), in which Ikee participated as a first-year junior high school student, she won the gold medal in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle events, setting the new junior high school record in short course. At the Japan Swim 2014, she was the only junior high school student to make it to the finals in all five events she competed.

At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in her first year of high school, she qualified for seven events, the largest number among the Japanese swimmers, and finished fifth in the 100-meter butterfly.

At the Japan Swim 2017, Ikee became the first Japanese woman ever to win five titles. And at the 2018 Asian Games, she won six titles for the first time in history and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Ikee returned to Japan in February 2019 due to health problems, and she was diagnosed with leukemia and had to be hospitalized for treatment. She left the hospital in December 2019 and returned to competition at the Tokyo Special Swimming Meet in August 2020.

 At the Japan Swim 2021, Ikee won the 50- and 100-meter butterfly and freestyle events and qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games. At the Tokyo Olympic Games, she competed in three events and reached the final of the women's 4x100-meter medley relay.

With a total of 16 Japanese records, 11 in individual events and 5 in relay events, Ikee trains hard every day for her third consecutive Olympic Games.
